DOOM is WORTHY! - [ videogames ]


In the past, quality films based on videogames have been pretty much nonexistent. Now, Doom has successfully shattered this slump. With its menacing looking monsters like the Hell Knight, revolutionary action sequences, and a plentitude of gore, Andrzej Bartkowiak's action movie is saved from becoming another Street Fighter. Don't listen to critics who have a reputation to preserve. This isn't Gone with the Wind and nobody should walk into it expecting it to be. This is The Rock's latest, and his best performance yet. Other cool bonuses are the references to the Doom games. Here are some of them.

The inclusion of the BFG
Also known as the Big...uh...Fudging Gun, this massive beast of a weapon is almost as big as one of The Rock's boobs.

Character Names
Dr. Carmack and Dr. Willitis are named after John Carmack and Tim Willitis from id software.

First Person Shooter Perspective
Moviegoers will be able to see through the eyes of someone mutilating enemies with bullets for the first time, something gamers have enjoyed since the creation of Hovertank 3D. This is the best part of the Doom movie.

Pinky Demon
A legless character with wheels fused to his torso, nicknamed "Pinky", becomes the adorable Pinky Demon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie up to the end when the Rock flipflopped from protagonist to antagonist - did they run out of CGI money to create a true DOOM endboss for the final battle? However, still damn fun with shades of Aliens and Resident Evil to boot!

Resident Evil? Pfff! Those movies were an insult to Resident Evil. I love Resident Evil to death and I consider myself the biggest Resident Evil fan. I have 8 of the RE games and I can tell you that the movies are not worthy of the RE name. What a disgrace. RE games definitley have movie qualities but only some one who can make movies like Michael Mann, Martin Scorcese, Steven Speilberg, Barry Levinson, etc should be allowed to make video game movies. I think George Lucas, with his imagination, could make a superb video game movie like RE. Or Brett Ratner. He didnt f*** up the Hannibal Lecter series in Red Dragon like I thought he would. In fact his movie was good and a milliono times better than Hannibal.

I thought it was okay; it was sorta funny when they started incorporating wrestling moves. I was waiting for the rock to whip out the "peoples elbow" on those mutated/zombified (no offence Dr. Z) "jabronies"...

Just saw it, and it was... the best video game movie ever. Not that that's saying much. Honestly, it was okay. Not great, but okay.
