Current Headlines - [ view archives ] Not everything that deserves a sequel gets one. It's hard to become the next Mario or Halo. To be remembered or loved years after its release, a videogame has to be excellent. There are no almost famous videogames. A game either sucks or it blows people away. The in between descends into a chasm, and is usually forgotten.
Here are some of my favorites that you may or may not remember from the PSX days.
Tomba! / Tomba 2: The Evil Swine Return
In the Tomba games you played a pink-haired caveman whose village is ravaged by the Seven Evil Pigs. In order to progress in the games, you had to complete a series of strange objectives. I'm really not a fan of platformers, but these games rocked and weren't the nonstop collecting of coins and useless items that platformers tend to be.
Trap Gunner
Trap Gunner was, for the most part, Bomberman grown up. In it you set traps/bombs for your enemy to step on, detected and deactivated their traps/bombs, and if all else failed, you could just pull out your pistol and shoot them.
Elemental Gearbolt
In this unique light gun game, all of the animations were hand drawn, giving it an unusual but cool anime look. EG was also much harder than games like Time Crisis and House of the Dead.
Silent Bomber
This action game was on the verge of being a huge hit. Still, nobody seems to remember it. Silent Bomber was another Bomberman-type game, only in this one you progressed through levels, instead having the closed arenas for one-on-one fighting that Trap Gunner had.
what about I dont know, I didn't own a psone o well. I remember the game banjo kazooie but that was for N64....yea Tomba is cool.
Hahaha Silent bomber... sounds like a farting competition
I've not heard of Trap Gunner, Elemental Gearbolt, or Silent Bomber, but I've heard plenty about Tomba!. I think I'll give some of these a try (if I can find them and they're not too expensive), after I spend some time with Oblivion of course.
Elemental Gearbolt was HARDDDDDD!
I loved Elemental Gearbolt as well. Definitely a challenging game. I remember the box or the disc had a cool hologram effect on it, which was pretty cool back then. Another game that was absolutely awesome that no one mentions for the psx was Destrega. Man I wish i can get a hold of that game now.
WEINER CHEESE FOREVER!!!
